First you would multiply the negative sign into the parenthesis:
-x-4=-8
Next, you want to get x by itself, so you would add the four to the right side of the equation:
-x=-8%2B4
-x=-4
When you have a negative variable, divide by a negative 1 (the variable is considered 1) to make the variable positive:
-x%2F-1=-4%2F-1
x=4
