The big important rule for solving equations is:
Whatever you do to one side of the equation, you
must do to the other side.
-8+%2B+3x+-+7x+=+48
The next rule is:
Get the unknown on the left side and the
numbers on the right side
------------------------
Add 8 to both sides
-8+%2B+3x+-+7x+=+48
-8+%2B+8+%2B+3x+-+7x+=+48+%2B+8
3x+-+7x+=+56
Simplify the left side
-4x+=+56
Divide both sides by -4
x+=+-14
Now check the answer:
-8+%2B+3x+-+7x+=+48
-8+%2B+3%2A%28-14%29+-+7%2A%28-14%29+=+48
-8+-+42+%2B+98+=+48
-50+%2B+98+=+48
