add 4
6x=5
divide by 6

Step 1. Add 4 to both sides of the equation

6x-4%2B4=1%2B4

6x=5

Step 2. Divide 6 to both sides of the equation

6x%2F6=5%2F6

x=5%2F6

Step 3. Check solution with original equation 6x-4=+1

6%2A%285%2F6%29-4=+1

5-4=1

1=1 which is a true statement

Step 4. ANSWER: Solution is x=5%2F6
