Question 221047: I need help setting up this equation to solve this problem. The lengths of the sides of a triangle are consecutive even integers. Find the length of the longest side if it is 22 units shorter than the perimeter. I figure N is the side. N+2 and N+4 is the consecutive. The perimeter is 3n+6-22 but how do you set this all up?

if N is the LONGEST side, then the two SHORTER sides are N-2 and N-4; making the perimeter 3N-6

N + 22 = 3N - 6 ___ 28 = 2N ___ 14 = N
