using the two EQUAL sides ___ 4x - 3 = 2x + 1 ___ 2x = 4 ___ x = 2

4x - 3 = 4(2) - 3 = 5

2x + 1 = 2(2) + 1 = 5

3x = 3(2) = 6

so the sides are 5, 5, and 6
