SOLUTION: i'm stumped i tried to by making the tops the same but that didn't go anywhere so i made the bottoms the same and that still didn't get me anywhere.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you multiply the equation by 2x then the left hand side has no bottom, if you then multiply the equation by 2x-1 the right hand side will have no bottom. This will give you:
(2x-1)(x+1) = 2x(x-1).
