Question 173984: Please help me find an equation of the line that is parallel to y=9/2x-8 and passes through 7,4. I can't seem to hit it right.Ty in advance, Judy Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! we know that parallel lines have equal slopes and the slope of the given line is
:
y=x-8
:
m or slope = 9/2
:
so using the point slope formula which is y-k=m(x-h) where (h,k) is a point on the line.
:
our point is (7,4)
:
y-4=9/2(x-7)
:
y-4=(9/2)x-63/2........multiply all terms by 2
:
2y-8=9x-63
:
9x-2y=55 standard form
