Question 168310: I am trying to solve x+3/10 = -2/5
I have tried working it with the addition principle.
x+3/10 = -2/5
x + 3/10-3/10= -2/5-3/10
x = -5/10
However, the solution is said to be x= -7
-5/10 + 3/10 = -2/5
How does -7/10 - 3/10 = -2/5 ?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x%2B%283%2F10%29=-2%2F5 multiply all terms by 10
10x%2B3=-4 subtract 3 from both sides
10x=-7
highlight%28x=-7%2F10%29
so the answer is not -7 but -7/10
remember -2/5 is the same as -4/10
so -7/10+3/10=-4/10
hope that helps
