Question 157122: How do I solve 8x/3+3=1/8. My first thought was find a common deminominator which I choose 24 multiple both side by 24. After I did all the math I got it down to 64x=-141 which is going to give me a decimal for x so I knew I must be doing something wrong because we have not gotten that far yet.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How do I solve %288x%2F3%29+%2B+3 = 1%2F8
:
Multiply equation by 24 like you said
24* %288x%2F3%29 + 24(3) = 24*1%2F8
Results
8(8x) + 72 = 3
:
64x = 3 - 72
:
64x = -69
x = %28-69%29%2F64
:
The solution to this problem is not an integer, we will just have to live with it!

Proof:
%288%28-69%2F64%29%2F3%29 + 3 = 1%2F8
%28%28-69%2F8%29%2F3%29 + 24%2F8 = 1%2F8
%28%28-23%2F8%29%29 + 24%2F8 = 1%2F8
