Question 152598: What is "restriction" in regards to an equation?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
An example of a "restriction" in an equation would be:
y+=+6%2F%28x-3%29 Here, the restriction is that x cannot take on a value of 3.
Why? Because, if x were equal to 3, then you would have:
y+=+6%2F%283-3%29 or
y+=+6%2F0 ...and as you know, division by zero is undefined and thus not permitted, so in this case, x = 3 is a restricted solution and x%3C%3E3.
