You can put this solution on YOUR website! If
(2x+1)(x-5)
--------- = 0, then x=
x+3
----------------
2x+1 = 0 or x-5 = 0
x = -1/2 or x = 5
--------------------------

Answer by mangopeeler07(462) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! What +1=0? -1. 2 times what=-1? -1/2. So x=-1/2. What minus 5 is zero? 5. So x=5.
so x=-1/2;5.
*Also, x is not -3, because if it was, the denominator would be zero, making the expression undefined, not 0.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! (2x+1)(x-5)
--------- = 0
x+3
(2x+1)(x-5)=x+3
2x^2-10x+x-5=x+3
2x^2-9x-x-5-3=0
2x^2-10x-8=0
2(x^2-5x-4)=0
using the quadratic equation: we get:
x=(5+-sqrt[-5^2-4*1*-4)/2*1
x=(5+-sqrt[25+16])/2
x=(5+-sqrt41)/2
x=(5+-6.4)/4
x=(5+6.4)/2
x=11.4/2
x=5.7 answer.
x=(5-6.4)/2
x=-1.4/2
x=-.7 answer.
