First, since x is given to you, plug that into the first equation. 6x+5y=27
x=78-9y. It should look like this: 6%2878-9y%29%2B5y=27. Then distribute on the left side. You should get 468-54y%2B5y=27. Add like terms and get 468-49y=27. Next, you should subtract 468 from each side to get the y all alone on one side. Remember, variables are outcasts, nobody likes them and they only hang out with their own kind. That being said, you shouldn't stop there. get -49 away from that weirdo y too! You should end up with y=9. Now that you have y, you can plug in 9 for y in the second equation (where you are given x). Get x=78-81. Therefore x=-3 and y=9. Wanna check? Put both values back into the original equation 6x+5y=27. Did you get -18%2B45=27? It's true!
