: Please help me understand this! I have a test soon and I don`t get how to do this!!! Thank you all sooo much! Here it is...
A rectangular piece of sheet metal measures 26in. by 20in. A square measuring 2in. by 2in. is cut out of each corner, and the sides are folded to form a box. What is the volume of the box?
Thank you so very much in advance! This question is from textbook Prentice Hall Mathmatics Pre-Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! THE BEST WAY TO SOLVE THESE TYPE OF PROBLEMS IS TO DRAW A SKETCH OF THE SHEET METAL WITH THE CORNERS CUT OUT & FOLDED.
YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE 26-2-2=22 IN. FOR ONE SIDE OF THE BASE.
YOU SHOULD HAVE 20-2-2=16 IN. FOR THE OTHER BASE MEASUREMENT.
YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE A HEIGHT OF 2 IN.
NOW MULTIPLY 22*16*2=704 IN^3 IS THE VOLUME OF THE BOX.
