First, subtract the fractions. Find the LCD just as you would in any fraction addition or substraction where the denominators differ. In this case, the LCD is 6, so rewrite the fractions in terms of the LCD:
3x%2F6-x%2F6=2
Now you can easily subtract them:
2x%2F6=2
Multiply each side of the equation by 6:
2x=12
Divide each side of the equation by 2 and you are done:

3x-x = 12
2x = 12
x = 6
