If k = 0, then the x^2 term in the 1st equation goes away. This leaves us with two linear equations. They may or may not intersect. If they do intersect, then you'll have exactly one solution.

I'll let the student check to see if the lines are parallel or not.

Hint: parallel lines have equal slopes but different y-intercepts.
