generation back? How many of these are males? Generalize to any generation back.

I was able to see the pattern which adds the pervious answers together.
gen 1: 1
gen 2: 1+1=2
gen 3: 1+2=3
gen 4: 2+3=5
gen 5: 3+5=8 all the way to the 12th gen
gen 12: 89+144=233
I know 89 are males and 233 are female.
Im lost on making an equation that work for any generation.
