You have lots of choices of how to write the two given numbers 880 and 920 in expanded form.

Using multiplication patterns from algebra, surely the simplest way is

%28900-20%29%28900%2B20%29+=+810000-400+=+809600

You of course could also do

%28800%2B80%29%28900%2B20%29+=+720000%2B16000%2B72000%2B1600 = ...

but that is clearly a lot more work.
