Question 1182927: 1. A linear model describes the relationship between the weight in pounds and the age in months for Great Dane puppies: Weight = 16.25(age in months) - 9.5. The model was created by using weights for puppies aged 2 to 6 months.
a) Use the model to estimate the weight of a puppy at 2 weeks (half a month), 1 year, and 5 years.
b) Does the model make sense for ages outside of 2 to 6 months? Why?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! W=16.25(.5)-9.5
=-1.375 pounds. Does not make sense, and model has been stated to be used between 2 and 6 months.
---
at 1 year or 12 months
=185.5 pounds, same comment.
---
5 years or 60 months
=965.5 pounds.

Weight gain after birth is often a quadratic equation where the upslope of the curve can be linear for a defined period of time, after which the model is no longer linear.
