first find f%28x%2Bk%29
f%28x%2Bk%29=a+%2Bb%28x%2Bk%29
f%28x%2Bk%29=a+%2Bbx%2Bbk
now substitute in
f%28x%2Bk%29-f%28x%29
=a+%2Bbx%2Bbk-%28a+%2Bbx%29
=a+%2Bbx%2Bbk-a+-bx...simplify
=bk
