Distribute the 4 across . Distribute the -1 across the . Sum the constant terms in the LHS and then add the additive inverse of that sum to both sides. Sum the first degree terms in the RHS and then add the additive inverse of that sum to both sides. Sum the first degree terms in the LHS and the constant terms in the RHS. Divide the RHS by the coefficient on the variable in the LHS.
