(1) Addition Property of Equality; twice
(2) Multiplication Property of Equality
First step add 5x to both sides. You will get
3x + 5x + 1 = -5x + 5x + 5
Next, combine like terms. You will get
8x + 1 = 5.
Third step subtract 1 from both sides
8x + 1 - 1 = 5 - 1
Next, combine like terms. You will get
8x = 4.
Fifth step is to divide both sides by 8. You will get
x = = .
ANSWER. x = .
CHECK. Left side of the original equation is = = .
Right side of the original equation is = = .
Both sides are equal --- hence, the solution is correct (!)
Solved. The solution is completed, explained and checked.

==============
When you solve similar equations, your first task is to collect all the terms with " x " on one side of the equation
and collect all constant terms on the other side.
Then you combine like terms.
The last step is to divide the equation (both sides) by the coefficient at x.
You get then the expression
x = some number (constant)
and this number is your answer.
When you combine the terms with " x " on one side, you transfer/move the terms from the other side
replacing their sign by the opposite sign.
It is the major secret (technology/strategy) of the solution.
