1. Add the additive inverse of the constant term to both sides of the equation.
2. Divide both sides of the equation by the lead coefficient.
3. Divide the new coefficient on the first-degree term by 2 and then square the result.
4. Add the result of step 3 to both sides of the equation.
5. Factor the perfect square trinomial that you have created in the LHS.
6. Take the square root of both sides remembering to consider both positive and negative roots
7. Add the additive inverse of the constant term in the LHS to both sides of the equation.
8. Simplify the RHS and specify both roots.
