Question 11395: -10=1/2x + x

You can put this solution on YOUR website! -10=1/2x + x
First you can add the 1/2x=x because they are like terms.
-10=1 1/2x, Now make the 1 1/2 an improper fraction,
-10 = 3/2x, you need to get x by itself so you multiply 3/2 by its inverse which is 2/3. What you do to one side you do to the other.
-10(2/3)= -20/3
Now you have:
-20/3 = x
check:
-10=1/2x+x; -10=1/2(-20/3)+ (-20/3)
-10= -20/6 + -20/3, you need common denominators so you can add:
-10 = -20/6 + -40/6
-10 = -60/6; -60/6 = -10
