Equations:
f = (1/2)c
5c + 3f = 1040 cents
----------------------------
Substitue and solve for "c":
5c + (3/2)c = 1040
10c + 3c = 2080
13c = 2080
Ans: c = 160 cents = $1.60

Let cost of an order of french fries and a burger be F, and B, respectively
Then we get: matrix%281%2C7%2C+F%2C+%22=%22%2C+%281%2F2%29B%2C+or%2C+F%2C+%22=%22%2C+B%2F2%29 ------ eq (i)
Also, 5B + 3F = 10.4 ------ eq (ii)
matrix%281%2C3%2C+5B+%2B+3%28B%2F2%29%2C+%22=%22%2C+10.4%29 ------ Substituting B%2F2 for F in eq (ii)
10B + 3B = 20.8 ------- Multiplying by LCD, 2
13B = 20.8
B, or cost of a cheeseburger = highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C3%2C+20.8%2F13%2C+%22=%22%2C+%22%241.60%22%29%29
