I'm assuming the original equation is expr%283%2F4%29w+%2B+5+=+expr%281%2F2%29w+%2B+9

If that is the case, then yes it leads to expr%281%2F4%29w+=+4; however, the answer is not w+=+1

Instead the answer is w+=+16 because you multiply both sides by 4

expr%281%2F4%29w+=+4

4%2Aexpr%281%2F4%29w+=+4%2A4

cross%284%29%2Aexpr%281%2Fcross%284%29%29w+=+16 Notice the '4's on the left side divide and cancel out (since 4/4 = 1)

w+=+16
