Let "x" be the measure of the smaller angle.

Then the measure of the larger angle is 8x, according to the condition.


Since the angles are complementary, you have this equation

x + 8x = 90 degrees,   or

9x = 90,

x = 90%2F9 = 10 degrees.


Answer. The smaller angle is of 10 degrees. The larger angle is of 80 degrees.
