If one is going 6 mph and the other is going 9 mph, then they are getting further apart at a rate of 15 mph. If you divide 15 mph by 60 minutes per hour, you get the speed they are getting further apart in miles per minute. If you then divide 2 miles by the number of miles per minute, you will get the number of minutes it will take them to be 2 miles apart.
