Question 103722: The reason I can't give you more information as to what section in the chapter or the problem #, the teacher gave us the worksheet she made on her own. I just need help in understanding just exactly how to set up this problem. Thank you most sincerely for your help!
The word problem reads:
After dieting and exercising for several months, Jared now weighs 20% less than he did originally. If Jared now weighs 180 pounds, how much did he weigh originally?
I know I make:
X = Original weight
(x-.20x)= Amt. of loss the 20%
180 lbs = Current weight
Do I set up the equation as:
x-(x-.20x) = 180
x-x-.20x = 180
+.20 +.20
________ ______
?x = 180.20
"Is the problem set up correctly? Do I count 3x?; or Do I count 2x? "Please" explain in a very simple explanation, so that I understand."
