It costs $1.50 for the first hour and $0.50 for each additional half hour to park in a parking lot. Mr. Fell paid $4.50. Write an equation to represent the situation.
Would it be:
n + 1.5 = 4.50
-1.5 -1.5
n = 3

Let total no. Of additional half hours be H.
Then total parking cost will be H *0.50 + 1.5 which is equal to 4.5
Hence, H * 0.5 = 4.5 - 1.5 = 3
Therefore, H = 3/0.5 = 6
Now 2 half hours make 1 hour.
Therefore 6 additional half hours will make 3 additional hours.
Hence, total no. Of hours = 3 + 1 = 4.
