Question 1019328: The length of a spring varies directly with the amount of weight attached to it. When a weight of 8 grams is attached, the spring stretches to 20 centimeters. Write an equation that relates the weight x and the length y of the spring. Find the number of grams of a weight that stretches a spring 35 centimeters. Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi there,
The length of a spring varies directly
with the amount of weight attached to it.
L = kW
Where k = constant of proportionality.
When a weight of 8 grams is attached,
the spring stretches to 20 centimeters
L = kW
20 = k8
k = 20/8
k = 2.5.
Formula:
L = 2.5W
35 = 2.5W
W = 35/2.5
Weight = 14 grams.
Hope this helps :-)
