"You invested $22,000 in two accounts paying 3% and 9% annual interest, respectively.
If the total interest earned for the year was $1440, how much was invested at each rate?"
I have to write this as an equation and show my work. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This can be done in one variable or in two variables.

x dollars at 3%, and therefore 22000-x at 9%

Total interest for the year, 1440 dollars.
%280.03%29x%2B%280.09%29%2822000-x%29=1440
Solve this for x.
