Question 1011976: I see that with addition and subtractions the variable being added or subtracted is put on the end like x-a=b becomes x-a+a=b+a the a was put on the end of both sides of the = but in x/a=b the answer is x=ab why isn't it x=ba? I would have done x/a=b a(x/a)=ba x=ba Does ab vs ba make the equation right or wrong or are they both right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This can become theoretically very complicated, but Algebra for Real Numbers has properties which rely on ADDITION and MULTIPLICATION. The properties which one learns for "introductory algebra" work for the operations of ADDITION and MULTIPLICATION. They do not work for subtraction nor for division.

You should study Introductory Algebra and all this will become clear.
