You can put this solution on YOUR website! Given:
.
4/11, 35%, 0.3666666666666
.
To arrange these in descending order from greatest to least, start by converting them all
to decimals.
.
First divide 4 by 11 to find the decimal equivalent of 4/11. When you do that division you
get an answer of 0.36363636 ...
.
Next, 35% is equivalent to 35/100 = 0.35
.
Finally, the third number you were given was already in the decimal form 0.366666666666 ...
.
By comparison you can see that the third number you were given is the largest because the
third position to the right of the decimal point is a 6. It is, therefore, bigger than
the decimal 0.363636363 in which the first and second positions (3 and 6) to the right of the
decimal are the same but whose third position to the right of the decimal is 3, therefore
making this number smaller than 0.3666666666666 .... And since 0.36363636 ... is 4/11, you
know that 4/11 is smaller than 0.3666666666 ... which you were given.
.
Finally, 35% is 0.35 and this is obviously smaller than either of the other two numbers because
their decimal forms begin with 0.36 .... and 0.35 is smaller than 0.36.
.
In fact, even if it were 36% it would be the smallest because in its third decimal
position there is a zero ... you could say that 36% equals 36/100 which also equals
0.360000.
.
So, from largest to smallest the answer is 0.36666666666 ...., 4/11, and 35%.
.
Hope this helps you to understand the problem and gives you some thoughts on how it can be
solved.
