Question 787199: You need to rent a car and compare the charges of three different companies. Company A charges 20 cents per mile plus $20 per day.
Company B charges 10 cents per mile plus $35 per day.
Company C charges $70 per day with no mileage charge.
a) Find formulas for the cost of driving cars rented for each company in terms of x, the distance driven in miles in one day.
b)Graph the costs for each company for 0 less than or equal to x less than equal to 500. Put all graphs on same set of axes.
a)I have been trying to figure out the formulas for this problem but I am not quite sure as to if I am correct or not.
For Company A, I got y=.20x+20
For Company B, I got y=.10x+35
For Company C, I got y=70x
b) I also tried to graph the equations on the same set of axes, but they did not seem to fit onto one set of axes. Is it because my formulas are incorrect?
If someone could help me as soon as possible, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.

Question 788853: How to you solve using linear models? For example, I do not understand to set up an equation. My math teacher said get to points then find your slope, plug it into point-slope form, then plug in your x to find your unknown y. For example this is one of the questions. There are 55 blades of grass in 1 inch of the lawn. There are 230 blades of grass in 4 inches of the same lwn. How many blades of grass are in 3 inches of the lawn?

Question 789194: Kathryn and Gaby are enrolled in a university program to study abroad in Spain
and then in South Africa. Th ey realize that they will have to convert US Dollars
(USD) to Euros (EUR) in Spain, and then convert EUR into South African Rand
(ZAR) for their time in South Africa. Th ey identifi ed a currency exchange service
in Spain that will convert D dollars to euros with the function E(D) = 0.64D- 5
and a currency exchange service in South Africa that will convert E euros to rand
using R(E) = 12.1E- 10.
1. For each function, give the units for the domain and range.
2. If Kathryn converts 450 USD in Spain to EUR, then converts that amount
in EUR to ZAR, how much will she have in South African rand? Explain the
process you used to arrive at your answer.
3. Explain how to compose the functions E and R to answer Item 2. Write the
composite function and identify the domain and range.
4. Aft er converting USD to EUR in Spain, Gaby had 139 EUR. Use an inverse
function to fi nd how much USD she converted.
1) E(D)=0.64D-5 Domain= Dollars
Range= E(D) convertion in euros
R(E)=12.1E-10 Domain= Euro
Range= Convertion in south Africa.

Question 792936: Help - I am not sure as there a few ways I can go from this question.
4) FruitNuts is a store that sells a variety of unpackaged dried fruit and nut items. The current amounts of supplies of each item are listed in the following table:
Item Supply (pounds)
dried bananas 800
dried apricots 600
coconut pieces 500
Raisins 700
Walnuts 900
In addition to the individual items above, the store also sells two kinds of mix products:
1. A Trail Mix product which consists of equal parts of all individual items above
2. A Subway Mix product which consists of two parts walnuts and one part each of the dried bananas, raisins, and coconut pieces.
To speed up service, the manager decides to package some of the merchandise in boxes ahead of time. Packaging and price data on boxes are shown below:
Packaged Product Weight/Box (pounds) Price/Box ($)
Trail Mix 2 7.00
Subway Mix 1 3.00
Dried Bananas 1 2.80
Dried Apricots 1 3.25
Coconut Pieces 1 3.60
Raisins 1 3.50
Walnuts 1 5.50
The manager decides that 50% of each of current supplies should be allocated for packaging in boxes, and the rest should be unpackaged. However, no more than 30% of the weight of packaged supplies should be allocated to mixes. Note that if any supplies allocated to packaging in boxes are not used in the optimal solution (that is, have slack), then the slack will be added to unpackaged supplies. FruitNuts wishes to use LP to determine the number of boxes for packaging products, so as to maximize the revenue from packaged product sales.
Answer the following questions:
4.1) (5 points) Write down the decision variables.
x1 = Trail Mix
x2 = Subway Mix
x3 = Dried bananas
x4 = Dried apricots
x5 = Coconut pieces
x6 = Raisins
x7 = Walnuts
4.2) (10 points) Write down the optimization statement for the objective function.
4.3) (15 points) Write down the constraints.
4.4) (10 points) Solve the LP problem in Excel Solver and write down the optimal solution and optimal value of the objective function (attach the spreadsheet screenshot).
