Question 758753: I cannot figure this one out. Please help. Thank you.
Fertilizer with weed control costing $30 per 50-pound bag is to be mixed with a less expensive fertilizer costing $6 per 50-pound bag to make 12 bags of fertilizer that can be sold for $26 per bag. How many bags of cheaper fertilizer should be used?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the number of bags of the cheaper fertilizer
Since there are 12 bags total, there will be 12-x bags of the expensive fertilizer
The total value of the mixture will be
30(12-x) + 6x = 12*26
-24x = 12(26-30)
-24x = -48
x = 2
So 2 bags of the cheaper fertilizer should be used
