Question 58990: I have looked at the word problems and I could not find help. I need someone to show me how to graph and create an equation or inequity from this situation for a prediction. This is the example I used The U.S.population has increased since 1970 from 223 million to 456 million.I need to show how this will show an increase over the years. To graph this would I need a straight line with an upward slope Please help me solve this situation and make me a graph.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The U.S.population has increased since 1970 from 223 million to 456 million.I need to show how this will show an increase over the years.
------------
You have two points (1970,223 mil), (2006,456 mil)
you want an equation of the form "pop=(slope)(year)+intercept".
slope= [456 mil - 223 mil]/[2006-1970]=233 mil/36=6.4722222... mil
Intercept: 223 mil =(6.472222..mil)(1970)+intercept
223 mil = 12750.28 mil+ intercept
intercept = -12527.28 mil
------------
EQUATION:
Population = (6.4722...mil)(year) - 12527.28 mil
