You can put this solution on YOUR website! During summer vacation Hector and Ann earned a total of $1088. Hector worked 8 days fewer than Ann and earned $2 per day less. Find the number of days he worked and the daily wage he made if the total number of days worked by both was 72.
:
Find out how many days each worked:
:
Number of days worked by Ann = x
:
"Hec worked 8 days fewer than Ann"
Hecs days = (x-8)
:
Together they worked 72 days:
x + (x-8) = 72
2x = 72 + 8
2x = 80
x = 80/2
x = 40 days worked by Ann, then Hec worked 32 days
:
Find out how much they made:
:
Let w = Ann's daily wage
Then (w-2) = Hec daily wage
:
40w + 32(w-2) = 1088
40w + 32w - 64 = 1088
72w = 1088 + 64
72w = 1152
w = 1152/72
w = $16 a day is Ann's wage, then $14 a day is Hec's wage
:
Check on your calc: (40*16) + 32(14) = 1088
