Question 295520: How much pure water must be mixed with 6 pints of 60% developer to produce a mixture that is 19% developer?
I just cannot come up with equations for this problem.
I have x representing the pure water and y representing the 60% solution.
The only equation I can come up with is:
x + 6y = .19
Please help me solve this problem. Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It can't be
x + 6y = .19
since x has 0% solution
and not 6 but .6
and you have to have .19 something
6*.6=.19(y+6)
y=12.9474
check
3.6=18.94737*.19
ok
