Question 140903: The volume of gas is inversely proportional to the pressure on the gas. If the volume is 6 cubic centimeters when the pressure on the gas is 8 kilograms per square centimeter, then what is the volume when the pressure is 12 kilograms per square?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! We apply "Boyle's Law" - the relationship of pressure and volume given by formula, P1V1=P2V2 ------- eqn 1
Given: V1= 6cu.m.
P1= 8kg/sqcm
P2= 12kg/sqcm
Find: V2=?
Going back eqn 1 and substituting the given,
(8)(6)=(12)(V2)
v2=4cu.m.
The answer is right. According to the Law when Pressure goes up, the Volume will decrease and vice versa. We see there's an increase in pressure from P1 to P2 (8 to 12), so volume will go down (as computed) from 6cu.m. to 4cu.m. (V1 to V2).
Cool!
Thank you,
Jojo
