Question 134243: Solve each system by the addition method. Determine whether the equations are independent, dependent, or inconsistent.
-3x + 2y = 8
3x + 2y = 8
Answer by algebrapro18(249) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! first add both equations together and solve for what ever is left over, in this case its going to be y.
-3x + 2y = 8
3x + 2y = 8
----------------
4y = 16
y = 4
now that we know what y equals we can pick one of the two equations and plug in our y value to solve for x.
3x + 2y = 8
3x + 2(4) = 8
3x +8 = 8
3x = 0
x = 0
so the answer to the system of equations is (0,8) and since we were able to find a solution both equations are independent of each other.
