Question 131908: I have been having a time with this word problem:
Admission to the Indianapolis Children's Museum costs twice as much for adults as for children. Admission to the museum for 4 adults and 16 children from the Tiny Tots Day Care Center costs $72. Find the cost of each adults admission and each child's admission.
So far I have tried:
2x=y
4x+16y=72
4x+16(2x)=72
4x+32x=72
36x=72
x=2 I've tried another way also, but it still didnt come out right. I know the answers are $3 for children and $6 for adults, but im not sure how the answer was obtained.....please help me

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
So in your working x is the number of adults and y is the number of children? The price of an adult ticket (x) must be two times the price of a child ticket (y) so x=2y. Go on from there and you should get the right answer.
