A basketball team wants to buy new
jerseys. Uniforms R Us charges $50 per
jersey. Jerseys Unlimited charges $40 per
jersey plus $80 for a logo design. How
many jerseys does the team need to buy for
Jerseys Unlimited to be the better option?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the number of jerseys, x.
Then Uniforms R Us charges $50 apiece.
The other company charges $40x + $80.
We want to know when the average charge of the Jerseys Unlimited is less than $50. So we write
Now multiply by x and solve...we get
40x + 80 < 50x
80 < 10x
x > 8 jerseys
Thus we must buy at least 9 jerseys for it to be the better buy.
