x + 11 = number of screens in california.
x + (x + 11) = 107
subtract 11 from both sides of the equation to get:
x + x = 107 - 11 = 96
combine like terms to get:
2x = 96
divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get:
x = 48.
new york has x = 48
california has x + 11 = 59
48 + 59 = 107
