Question 1131020: Use the method of substitution to solve the following system of equations. If the system is dependent, express the solution set in terms of one of the variables. Leave all fractional answers in fraction form.
{7x+8y=−18
7x+5y=−6
so I first isolated y on the first equation, getting (-7x-18)/8. then i substituted it for y in the second equation getting x=-3.
I then substituted -3 for x on the first and second equation getting 3/8 and -3.
I dont know what I'm doing, if I'm doing it right and if it is a dependent system inconsistent or only one solution. Please help if you can, Thank You!
