Question 445734: I tried this on my own and then checked it against answers I found and nothing makes sense to me now...this is a 4 part problem and I am showing what I got so far too.
Imagine you are in the market for a new home and are interested in a new housing community under construction in a different city.
a-The sales rep informs you that there are 56 houses for sale with two floor plans still available. Use x to represent floor plan one and y to represent floor plan two. Write an equation that illustrates the situation. I wrote x+y=56
b-The sales rep later indicates that there are three times as many homes available with the second floor plan than the first. Write an equation that illustrates this situation. Use the same variables you used in part a. I got y=3(x)
c-Use the equations from parts a and b of this exercise as a system of equations. Use substitution to determine how many of each type of floor plan is available. Describe the steps you used to solve the problem. so my equations are x+y=56 and y=3(x)...is this all right so far?
d-What are the intercepts of the equation from part a of this problem? What are the intercepts from part b of this problem? Where would the lines intersect if you solved the system by graphing? I got two intercepts of (0,56) and (56,0). I also found that (14,42) is where it intercepts. Am I right or can you show me the correct way? I tried the equations the best I could....

Question 446815: Hi! My question is: What are the dimensions of a rectangle having perimeter 28 cm and a diagonal of length 10 cm. I'm hoping that using the pythagorean theorem is the correct way to go about this, but I keep getting strange answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Question 447911: I need to solve x2(this is x squared)+2x-4=0
I tried to solve by adding 4 to both sides to get x squared +2x=4
Then I divided 2x by 2 and squaring to get 1
then I added one to both sides to get X squared +2x+1=5
Then I factored to get (x+1)squared=5
Then I took the square root of both sides to get x+1=sq root of 5
Then I subtracted one from both sides to get
x=-1+sq root of 5 and x=-1-sq root of 5
Is this correct?

Determine whether the point (7,2) is a solution of the system
-3x+4y=-13
-2x+8y=2
by substituting the point into each equation?
