Question 181756: I am having difficulty with a linear equation word problem.
Band A charges $600 to play for the evening. Band B charges $350 plus $.125 for each ticket sold.
-Write a linear equation for the cost of each band
-Graph each equation and find the number of tickets for which the cost of the two bands would be equal.
I tried to find the two equations and came up with -
y= 5/4x - 280
y= x - 600
Thanks.

Question 181781: Hi, I'm having trouble with the following questions:
For what value of 'a' is there no unique solution for the following?
3x - 2y = 5
5x + ay = 4
Also, when 'a' has this value, is there an infinite number of solutions or no solution? Justify your answer.
Thank you so much!

Question 181787: Hi tutors!
I'm really stuck on this!!
an orchandist has 10 hectares of land available for growing Fuji apples and Nashi pears. She estimates that each hectare of apples will cost $5000 to establish, and each heactare of pears will cost $20 000 to establish. She is not able to spend more than $100 000 on establishing the orchard.
It is also estimated that the profit per hectare from apples will be $4000 and the profit per hectare from pears will be $8000.
What is the maximum profit the orchard can expect?
How many hectares of Fuji apples and Nashi pears should she plant to achieve this? Show your working clearly. You should explain the reason behind the answer you give.
This is a huge problem. Sorry about this tutors!! But would appreciate if you could solve it for me!!
Thanks!!

Question 181780: Hi there my question is:
Solve for (x, y, z)
2x + 5y + 3z = 16
x/5 + y/2 + z/3 = 2 (this is a fraction with x at the top and 5 and the bottom)
3x = 2y - 4z = -2
State clearly whether this system is consistent or inconsistent, whether the solution is unique, or if there are an infinite number of solutions, or no solution at all. If the solution is unique, state the solution.
Thanks tutors!!

Question 181885: Hello Tutors!
I am never able to do quetions like this! Could you also please show all working out so I can figure it out?
Solve for x: 3 - x / 4 < 2 - 3x / 5
Note: This is are Linear Inequation. The / indicates a fraction with 3 - x at the top and 4 and the bottom. And also 2 - 3x and 5 at the bottom.
Thank you so much!!

Question 182143: Hello Tutors!I have a problem that I'm stuck with here.
1) The equations of three planes are:
3x + 2y + 7z = 25
2x + y + 4z = 14
5x + 3y + 11z = 39
Solve the above system of equations. State whether this system is consistent or inconsistent and how many solutions are there?

Question 182272: BEEHIVE.... A farmer is tracking two wild honey bees in his field. He maps the first bee's path to the hive on the line 7y = 9x
The second bee's path follows the line y = -3x + 12. Their paths cross at the hive. At what coordinates will the farmer find the hive?
I think that I should try to line the variables up on one side, then add one set of variables together and also the integers and then solve for that respective variable. After solving for that variable, I can plug it back into one the two line equations and then find the other variable. The two variable points I get are where the bees' paths intersect?
I made 7y=9x----> 7y-9x=0
I made y=-3x+12----> y+3x=12
I then added the x's together and get -6x=12...solving by division for x, I get x=-2
plugging -2 for x back into the second equation I get y=18 but this does not work at all for the top equation!
Where have I gone wrong or what do I need to do differently????
