1.Find k if the following system of equations has a unique solution
2x + (k - 1)y = 6
3x + (2k + 1)y = 9
2.Find k if the following system of equations has infinite solutions
kx + 3y = k - 3
12x + ky = k
3.Find k if the following system of equations has no solution

Question 144150: How can you solve the systems of euations using elimination with the equations: 3x-5y=11 and 4x+3y=5
It's for my Algebra Final Examination, so I need help fast!
One way is to eliminate one of the variables. Multiply the 1st eqn by 4 and the 2nd by 3, giving:
12x-20y=44 and
12x+ 9y=15. then, subtract eqn 2 from eqn 1, giving
0x -29y=29, or 29y = -29.
So y = -1. Sub -1 in for y in eqn. 1 or 2, giving 3x -5(-1) = 11, or 3x + 5=11.
Then 3x = 6, x=2.

Question 144674: I have 3 parts to my question:
A person cuts a board into two pieces that are equal in length. The first piece is 3 times the length of the person's forearm minus 1 inch. The second piece is 5 times the length of the person's forearm plus 15 inches.
I have to
1.) Construct a linear equation that represents this situation using x as the variable for the person's forearm.
2) Solve the linear equation algebraically and graphically to find the length of the person's forearm.
3.) Discuss whether or not my answer is reasonable.
So, here is what I have come up with thus far...
x=3x-1+5x+15
x=8x+14 (combine like terms)
x=8x-8x+14
x-8x=14
-7x=14
(Divided by -7)
x=-2
And this is where I get lost. If my answer is correct I then substituted my answer of -2 into each equation:
3x-1=x
3(-2)-1=x
-6-1=x
-7=x
5x+15=x
5(-2)+15=x
-10+15=x
5=x
I am confused as to how to graph my equation?

She wants to put 5 times as much money in the Money Market account as in the Global Equities account. She assumes that she will be able to get a return equal to the 10-year average, and she wants the total return on her investment to be 7 percent.
How much money should she invest in each account? Round each percentage to the nearest whole-number.
Annuity Accounts 10-Year Average
Global Equities 6.96%
Money Market 4.25%
Social Choice 10.01%
