Question 81885: respected teacher,
i have a big problem.
we have not learned this yet in the class.
the question is: find four values of(x,y)which satisfy each of the following equations.
1)2x +y = 7
2)x - y = 3
3)x = -y
4)x = y
5)x + y = 11
6)y - 5 = x
i didnt understand whether we have to take every single equation in consideration or only one at a time.
i tried it by taking one in the consideration.
and for the first one got the answer:
2x +y = 7
y = 7-2x
so if we substitute x=3
then, y = 7-2*3
y = 7-6
y = 1
thus if x = 3,then y = 1
and likewise we can get other co-ordinates by substituting x
ps:and if this way is correct for solving this question,dont solve the other sums.just tell me it is correct
thanking you in anticipation,
your student.

Question 82561: Some scientists believe there is a limit to how long humans can live.* One supporting argument is that during the last century, life expectancy from age 65 has increased more slowly than life expectancy from birth, so eventually these two will be equal, at which point, according to these scientists, life expectancy should increase no further. In 1900, life expectancy at birth was 46 yr, and life expectancy at age 65 was 76. In 2000, these figures had risen to 76.9 and 82.9, respectively. In both cases, the increase in life expectancy has been linear. Using these assumptions and the data given, find the maximum life expectancy for humans.

Question 79277: Hello. I'm trying to solve the following system, but I keep running into fractions rather than whole numbers. (1) If I get rid of the fractions on the first equation by multiplying it by 8, then again by 12... and (2) multiply the second equation by 10 to eliminate Y, I get X = 1644/38 or 4.2590.
On the other hand, if I try by susbstitution (Y=5x/12 - 252) from the second equation into the first one, I get X = 79.33.
(7/2)X + (5/4)Y = 4
(5/6)X - 2Y = 21
What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I get a whole number for an answer? Please help. Thanks for your generosity.

Question 83855: This seems pretty easy, but I'm a little confused with this question:
There is $3.50 in nickels and dimes, if there are already 50 coins; how many of each type of coin is there?
A coffee merchant has coffee beans that sell for $9 per pound and $12 per pound. The two types are mixed to create 100lb of a mixture that will sell for $11.25 per pound. How much of each type of bean should be used in the mixture?
Also if I could and explanation on how I would figure out how to decide how much of each bean should be used.
Thank you for any help that I can get.
