Question 837118: solve equation using substitution
X = y + 8
5x + 3y =12
so I put x in 5x = 5(y+8)+3y=12 = 8y + 40 = 12 now I subtract 40 and get 8y=-28 which give me -28/8 or y= -7/2, so when I plug into y what is my answer for X. the teacher said they a reasonable solution. But I am lost, my dad says no solution, I don't really know. Im in 8th grade algebra
