Question 963257: An artist was commissioned to make a 500-g statue composed of 60% tin. She has 70% tin alloy and 30% tin alloy available .
What mass of each alloy is required to produce the desired alloy? Use an elimination method to solve this problem?

I tries my best , here is my solution. Please help my correct anything I did wrong. thank you kindly =)
x represent the mass of 70%
y represent the mass of 30%
first equation: x+y = 500
0.60 (500 g) =300g
second equation: 0.70x + 0.35y= 300
linear system is:
x+y = 500
0.70x + 0.35y= 300

(x+y = 500) * 0.70
0.70x + 0.70y= 350
subtract
0.70x + 0.35y= 300
0.70x + 0.70y= 350
- 0.35y= -50
y= 142
x+y= 500
x +142= 500
x= 358

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your second equation is wrong.
You changed the y coefficient from 0.3 to 0.35.
The second equation should be
0.70x%2B0.30y=300
You're on the right track.
Make this change and re-solve for x and y.
